Suppressing the rebound of impacting droplets from solvophobic surfaces by polymer additives: polymer adsorption and molecular mechanisms

چکیده
Droplet rebound is suppressed by a small amount of polymer additives two molecular mechanisms, slow retraction and hopping. Both mechanisms are attributed to the adsorption on surface.

Dewetting of conducting polymer inkjet droplets on patterned surfaces.
The manufacture of high-performance electronic devices with micrometre or even submicrometre dimensions by solution processing and direct printing, requires the ability to control accurately the flow and spread of functional liquid inks on surfaces. This can be achieved with the help of surface-energy patterns causing inks to be repelled and dewetted from pre-defined regions of the substrate. T...
متن کاملPolymer Translocation Induced by Adsorption
We study the translocation of a flexible polymer through a pore in a membrane induced by its adsorption on trans side of the membrane. When temperature T is higher than Tc, the adsorption-desorption transition temperature, attractive interaction between polymer and membrane plays little role in affecting polymer conformation, leading to translocation time that scales as τ ∼ L3 where L is the po...
متن کاملPolymer adsorption onto random planar surfaces: interplay of polymer and surface correlations.
We study the adsorption of homogeneous or heterogeneous polymers onto heterogeneous planar surfaces with exponentially decaying site-site correlations, using a variational reference system approach. As a main result, we derive simple equations for the adsorption-desorption transition line. We show that it is preferable to have a small amount of strongly adsorbing sites or monomers rather than a...
متن کاملMolecular Design of Functional Polymer Surfaces
Three design principles are presented that allow for the molecular design of functional polymer surfaces: surface segregation, surface structure, and surface reorganization. These design principles are illustrated by a description of the behavior of model endfunctional polymers that accurately reflect the general behavior of essentially all possible linear functional polymer architectures. Seve...
متن کاملDrag reduction by polymer additives from turbulent spectra.
We extend the analysis of the friction factor for turbulent pipe flow reported by G. Gioia and P. Chakraborty [Phys. Rev. Lett. 96, 044502 (2006)] to the case where drag is reduced by polymer additives.
